Geboren am 16.02.1497 in Bretten, gestorben am 19.04.1560 in Wittenberg. Melanchton war seit 1514 Magister und Lehrer für alte Sprachen in Tübingen. Er kam 1518 nach Wittenberg und war ein enger Mitarbeiter von Martin Luther und hat an allen wichtigen Religionsgesprächen teilgenommen. Später entfernte er sich jedoch von Luthers Anschauungen; ihm fiel nach Luthers Tod die Führung des Protestantismus zu.
