As you know that many countries in the world still practicing shifting cultivation. The Socio-economic life of the tribal people in Mizoram, North East India, has also always been centered on jhum or shifting cultivation. The basic problem is the method of farming the land, that is, the practice of shifting cultivation, which causes depletion of forests and biodiversity, soil erosion as also a complex of environmental damages. Sometimes the production is even marginally negative in agriculture. In order to address the problems of the region Govt of India and many International Agencies have initiated several Watershed development programs to improve peoples livelihoods, socio-economic conditions, environmental problems and abolish the practice of Jhum cultivation. I believe that the findings of the Research reported in this book namely Impact of Integrated Watershed Development Program in Mizoram State, North East India would extremely be useful to Researchers, Academicians, Anthropologists, Sociologists, Social workers working for the welfare of tribals,policy makers, planners and general readers as well. The present volume contains complete analysis,findings and suggestions.
