How does the European Court of Human Rights deal with notions, issues and principles of public international law? How is public international law received and applied by the European Court of Human Rights? The different contributions analyse the question Fragmentation or Unity?" in the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights in light of different issues. Topics include the Courts approach to the law of treaties, state responsibility, and state and diplomatic immunity. Likewise, the manner in which the European Court of Human Rights deals with the obligation to not recognize unlawful situations is examined.

Priv.-Doz. Dr. Konrad Lachmayer, Independent researcher and senior lecturer at the department of constitutional and administrative law at the law faculty of the University of Vienna; he was co-director of the NICLAS Summer School (2007-2012). Dr. Christina Binder is Associate Professor of International Law at the University of Vienna. She was visiting fellow at the Lauterpacht Center for International Law in Cambridge (2007-08) and at the Max Planck Institut for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg (2008-10). She is member of the Young Academy of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
