The book describes the development of J.F. Herbart’s university pedagogic seminar, his understanding of pedagogical tact and the influence of Herbartianism on teacher education in the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. It presents Herbartianist pedagogy in Slovenia in the 19th century and its influence on school policy.
Autorenportrait
Edvard Protner is Professor and Head of Department of Pedagogy at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Maribor (Slovenia). His key research interests include history of education, especially the educational concepts of Herbartianism and progressive education, theory of education and comparative education such as PISA 2006 and private education.
