Hans de Beer, geboren 1957 in Muiden in der Nähe von Amsterdam. Nach einem kurzen Geschichtsstudium ließ sich Hans de Beer an der Kunstschule Rietveld Art Academy in Amsterdam ausbilden. Seine Examensarbeit über den kleinen Eisbären Lars bescherte de Beer weltweiten Erfolg und zahlreiche Auszeichnungen und wurde bis dato in dreißig Sprachen übersetzt. Hans de Beer lebt als freier Illustrator mit seiner Lebenspartnerin, einer italienischen Illustratorin, in Amsterdam und in der Nähe von Florenz.
